Do you know that to stay focused on your goals, it is essential that you learn to prioritize? In this post, I will share some practical tips that will keep you on the path to your dreams.
I confess that on many occasions I have set goals that I have not been able to meet within the established deadline because I have had distractions, unforeseen events or setbacks that have taken me away from them. And to be honest with you, almost daily challenges come up disguised as excuses that blur me and test my commitment to my goals.
When that happens I ask myself the following question: Does this action move me away or bring me closer to my dreams?
Time is the most precious asset that human beings have and the greatest resource to achieve our purpose. However, we often waste time without being aware of its true value. Here are the 7 most useful time management tricks I have learned and constantly use to prioritize and staying focused on my goals.
Continually do visualization exercises to keep your vision clear. It is easy to lose your way in the midst of the storm of the day, and the vision of your destination is the guiding light. It will help you to make a mural of dreams, in which you put images of your ideal life and phrases that inspire you as a collage, which you can cut out of magazines, and have it hanging on the wall in a visible place.
Mentally move to where you want to go and then retrace the path you have travelled to get there. This will help you to realize what actions you have had to undertake along the way and at what specific moments.
Think about your 10-year goal and the person you have become, and ask yourself to get there, what has to have happened in 5 years; what obstacles have I had to overcome; what resources have I needed; who has helped me.
Repeat the same process every year. To enhance your imagination, you can take a virtual tour in the hallway of your house. This will help you realize what is truly important to you.
Some tasks in our action plan require smaller subtasks. Decomposing these types of tasks into different pieces of similar sizes as if it were a puzzle, will help you plan more effectively. This type of chain action requires general as well as specific attention, and must be disseminated as if it were a project.
In this way, you will be able to know, in which part of the process you need to pay more attention and what tasks you can delegate. Something that experts recommend is that, do those tasks as soon as you think about them that can be done in less than 2 minutes, because putting them on the agenda takes more time than doing them, and when there are many, they become stones in the backpack.
One of the things that costs us the most is to say no to someone close to us who asks us for a favor. We like to be available and let others know that they can count on us. And if we are not ready for everything and for everyone we fear that our relationships will deteriorate.
But, this attitude leads to the deterioration of the most important relationship of all, which is with oneself, because we continually put our own interests in second place, something that takes its toll because it causes dissatisfaction and then deep down nobody appreciates it.
Our life is dominated by our habits. And habit is both what we do and what we don’t do, including what we think and feel. If you took stock of your habits, most of them surely do not add anything to your life; at most, they keep it as it is.
These habits lead to low-value tasks that do not build your vision, such as watching TV, chatting on social networks, browsing news without interest, going out with friends. Ensure that most of the tasks you undertake every day are of high value, that is, they contribute to the creation of the life of your dreams.
Although the tempting thing is that the most complicated thing we postpone leaving it for later or for a better time, it is not the most recommended. Especially because doing it first will help you get rid of the heaviest load and will make the rest of the day face it with more lightness and a feeling of achievement.
Also because these fattest and most difficult tasks are the ones that require the most dedication, concentration and energy on your part. That is why it is advisable to do them at the beginning of the day and not when you get tired and the rush dominates you.
Waiting for the stars to align so that everything comes together is the most beautiful excuse to remain as you are. The excuses have the mission of keeping us within our comfort zone, which is where we apparently feel security and tranquillity, because we move on familiar ground.
The comfort zone is not that it is comfortable, but it is the area where we settle for what we have. Excuses arise out of fear of going out into the unknown area and facing new challenges. But great feats are only achieved by facing challenges and conquering new territories.
If you apply these 7 tips correctly, I guarantee that in addition to prioritizing and maintaining focus, you will obtain many other benefits, such as
